Selena was born on Level 1472 to a family that still owned its name but had lost most of its passed-down business over the years. Her parents struggled to cope with bringing up five children as well as running a failing business and it wasn't long before her father collapsed and died of a heart attack. With little left, Selena's family moved down to Level 1313 when she was but ten years old where they wound up in the Refinery for several years. Under these harsh conditions Selena's mother and two of her siblings died though somehow she found the mental and physical strength to go on. Selena had begun to notice strange things about herself early on and it was while living in the Refinery that she first became aware of her Force sensitivity.
When Selena was fourteen she and her remaining two siblings were found by Rathon Olan, an uncle who ran a cantina in Low Light and brought there to safety. They had to work but found themselves in a far safer environment than they had lived in for the past three years. Selena worked obediently for her uncle though at night she would experiment with her abilities, floating small objects around and doing other Force related things. She was bitter about her lot in life but had always been taught by her parents to take what she had been given and live with it.
Around her eighteenth birthday Selena's uncle fell ill, her two siblings having left to join local gangs in the year before. Rathon Olan knew he was dying so he told his niece a story about an old relative who came to visit many years ago, when he was still young. The man had spoken to Rathon's father before handing over a small metal box. Rathon always believed that something important was within that box but he had never been able to open it. With his last strength Selena's uncle gifted her the box and told her to look after herself.
Easier said than done, for as soon as Rathon was dead the Black Sun came and took over his cantina, kicking Selena out. With little left for it Selena was forced to find housing in a local den of ill repute which was always looking for pretty girls. She began working as a dancer and in the last year has begun to work as a prostitute, often walking the streets of Low Light when she wasn't dancing. She has mostly ceased to care about the box, which she keeps under her bed in her small room, though sometimes she will take it out and try to open it. Her abilities still lie within her and once in a while she will use them when no one is looking, though she has ceased to care about dreaming of a better life for herself.
